Obviously once they get to a decentish size its easier to tell the difference but, and this really applies to roach or ide and chub or ide (if you get me), up to about a 12 ounces I'm not sure on the differences - certainly as my local stocks all 3. Had I just caught a pound roach (yeh !) or an ide of about a pound (boo !). No pics as yet but can anyone give me a rough guide.

Chublets are longer and thinnner and have a wide mouth with white lips. Ide look similar to roach but a roach has orange eyes and ide have dark eyes. The mouth of all three gives it away to the experienced eye.

The biggest difference between roach and orfe is the scale count along the lateral line. Roach are usually about 42 or 43, orfe (ide) are somewhere in the mid fifties. Put together roach have bigger scales.
