Can anyone recommend a good robust fishermans thermometer? A simple one that doesn't need batteries. I tried the www.rivertherm.co.uk one and about third time out it lashed it down all day, water got in, and it died. I complained and they sent another one. That one won't even switch on. So needless to say I don't really rate it.

Jon,

Reuben-Heaton do a very basicwaterthermometer for about £14 or £15.

Low tech but nothing wrong with it.

Try a Fly Fishing tackle shop and ask for a Stream thermometer, stainles steel, and very robiust.. ( also come in plastic ) I managed to get one of E Bay for £4.50. Just dunk in the river , wait, and a min later you have the temperature.

You can cast the Reuben-Heaton thermometer. And it collects a sample of water from the lake bed through a valve. They also do a depth-ometer.

Actually I use the Maplins Aquarium Thermometer. OK its a digital, but its as cheap as chips (less than £10) and the batteries last at least a season.
