Using hefty method feeders, my own secret method mix incorporating Goo and Ringers 8mm mini-boilies ringing the changes with sweetcorn (pardon the pun), I copped a wonderful mixed bag of tench (3), roach (2), bream (13), carp (3), crucian carp (2), and rudd (9). The tench went to 5 lbs, the roach - 1 1/2 lbs, bream - 7 3/4 lbs, crucians - 3lbs and the carp - 14 lbs.

This took place at one of my favourite Lincolnshire lakes.

I am completely knackered.

And now to tackle the Trent.

I have now had 4 sessions using Goo as a flavourant.

2 of those sessions, not today's, incorporated using two rods, one with goo on the bait and one without goo. The goo flavoured bait and method mix produced the most fish, including 3 crucians which almost equal those caught by myself and great angler Steve Crawshaw in the 60s.

There is no doubt that Goo works.

But no doubt there will be snide remarks from some members of this site.

By the way I started off with two rods. I had to give up that for a lark, and ended up with one rod. Two rods were one too many.

By the way, just heard from a mate of mine fishing the Trent. In one short session - 3 hours yesterday afternoon, he caught 9 barbel to 9 1/2 lbs on pellet and feeder on the Tidal. It was a nice mix of fish from about 3 lbs to nearly double figures.

Now that is great news and confirms that the Trent is certainly the UKs premier barbel river.

Only one angler, who packed up and went home about 11 am when I was about halfway through the catch. There were three anglers in a car who stopped and watched me land one of the bream, a 5 pounder as it was.

Other that that the lake was empty of anglers.

And the rule is that keepnest are not allowed.

I wish I had had a couple of witnesses to the size of the catch, but quite honestly this particular lake has been throwing up a few excellent mixed catches lately.

What flavour goo

Pineapple smoke. I used a method mix groundbait mixed with lots of hemp and crushed Trigga boilies. The hookbait was either sweetcorn glugged in the goo, or 8 mm Ringers pink mini boilies fished on size 12 Drennan barbless specialist hooks to 5 lb Incognito hook length and 6 lb Pro Gold reel line. Drennan flat feeders were used.

Rods were 11 foot Harrison FM Concepts, reels - Shimano DL 4000 FA baitrunners. Alarms were Delkims and swingers - Fox.

There you are, a complete resume of the gear used.

No it's not the same, but I agree with you about the bolt riggers and tench.

Many years ago I fished a very well known carp water in Oxfordshire that also was at the time home to some of the biggest tench in England. It was mainly fished by carp anglers who caught lots of tench. Many of the tench I caught on conventional tench float tackle had damaged mouths.

Personally I have always removed my rods when I wanted to sleep in my bivvy as the water was very weedy. No doubt that the tench were damaged when they were dragged out of dense weed with heavy carp gear, and tench have more than a tendency to head for weedbeds when hooked.

Looks like you have a northern "Marsh farm" there with crucians that size Ron, I hope you took some foto,s.
Can you upload them on here?

Look out in future issues of Angling Star.

I had another excellent morning on the same water, this time fishing 10 mm popups on a short link to Drennan flat method feeders using my own special well fermented maize and chop chop mix flavoured with Pineapple surprize Goo.

The tench loved it.

I got 6 tench and lost 2 from the same peg as Tuesday. Best fish was a 5 pound male tench which went like hell.

The more I think about it the more I will agree with Jim Gibbinson who once said that male tench in good condition are the hardest fighting coarse fish size for size in the UK.

This thing has left my right wrist in a permanent droop.

If you fished a less busy venue, you'd find that the tench mouths remain largely undamaged. The level of damaged mouths has got a lot more to do with the frequency of their capture.
One thing for sure it's got naff all to do with the fish being dragged through weed. Besides the best way of extracting a fish from dense weed is to maintain constant but not excessive pressure; if you yank their heads off you'll snap off - as I'm sure you're aware the weight of accumilated weed on your lead and around the fish's face is such that it probably impedes any thoughts of yanking hard.

You just stick up north fishing your northern muddy-puddle-commy.:wh

Really!

Why do you have to be so obnoxious?

Is it possible that you could become more civilised?

Not obnoxious, just blunt, as for why, because I'm fed up of your constant derision of anglers that don't fish your way, especially UK carp anglers.

Quite literally you seem to use any and every conceivable opportunity to do this, why?
