Iwear "tartan plus fours" Baz, I find that no matter how busy the fishery is, if you sit down for a chat with the angler in the "going swim" wearing white plimsolls, black socks, the aforementioned trousers and a pyjama top, they leg it pretty quick, often leaving you bait and all sorts. Tommy Pickering has worn similar attire for years, AND done very well for himself I can tell you.

Never had a pair Baz but have looked at them on numerous occasions.
They have been around the ?25 mark for years. Some people swear by them. (I can swear without them)
Try Cudsworth Of Nordan, Rochdale. Used to manufacture their own. They also had a mill shop but at present I don't know if they are still about.
At present I'm using Crag Hoppers. Price can between ?25 to ?35 depending on where you shop. Not as thick as mole skins.

Moleskin is probably the toughest cloth ever made with rugged outdoor wear in mind. I haveworn moleskin pants on many occasions. They are ideal in the bush as they tend to soak up the sweat. Snakes also have a job getting their fangs through the cloth

Moleskin is made from cotton which is extremely tightly woven. It is very warm in winter, and quite comfortable in the heat of summer. Verypopular with cowhands and Aussie stockmen.

I have seen Rolf Harris (who is actually an Australian as well as yourself Ron), he has NEVER worn moleskin trousers when I have seen him on the telly with a peace of hardboard as a musical instrument.

PS...I will be buying you a drink at the "speci night" in April Ron.

And by the way, the spur on the hammer of your Colt Single Action Army slides easily over moleskin yet tends to stick on Denim, causing misfires -not funny!

Oh but you are wrong Deanos. Rolf does wear Moleskin trousers, he has them specially made for him.

As you know he lives near us in Maidenhead and his has scouts out walking along the banks of the Thames. They are always asking our anglers "Seen any moles?" and often they point to the give away hills of dirt. A little dig and they uncover the little black gentleman and as soon as he pops up onthe surface they whack him with the spade.

It's got so bad these last few years that we're running out of moles now. You might wonder why anglers are bothered, but the moles provide us with soem super groundbait in teh dirt they dig up. Very fine and smells of worms, doesn't feed the fish yet colours the water up. SO DON'T BUY ANY MORE MOLESKIN TROUSERS unless you havemoney to spend on Sensas Black groundbait.

One of the lads I was with yesterday was wearing moleskins. He wears them for fishing and shooting, and swears by them. The only problem is that they haven't been washed in three years, and his wife won't allow them in the house. They live in the garage.

Three years???

Mine have never been washed at all and they have been around for 22 years. Bought them in Nottingham Road - KwaZulu-Natal.

What I want to know is why is Ron wearing Denim Jeans in his photo?

Never, ever, EVER buy denim Jeans for outdoor persuits. Once they get wet they stay wet. They are cold, and they are heavy. Only cowboys and cattle russtlers wear Denim Jeans.

There is Denim and there is Denim. The best is made by Levi & Strauss, the originators of Denim Jeans from the original French cloth. How they became to be blue in colour is a mystery. The original jeans with sort of kahki and olive mottled in hue and were excellent as outdoor pants.

But not as good as moleskin.

I bought a pair on e bay just before christmas. Very pleased with them, they cost about £20.00. Don't buy the german combat type as they are not moleskin as we know it, but a type of denim.

That's the exact opposite to what usually happens to my pants now Trist.

The wife started buying my pants for me (big mistake). I would be tyed up like a bag of rocks and halfway across a field with my tackle on my back, they would end up around my ankles. I think I'll give the Norriss pants a go.
