Canal fishing (cambridge)

Next weekend i plan to go up to cambridge (uk) to fish on the cam for a day or maybe just the afternoon. What sort of bait/additive is good for general purpose canal fishing these days? I'll probably not bother with maggots this time round. In the past I have done corn or luncheon meat. I like the look of the source range of liquid additives, but it's hared to know what flavour to go for.

The Cam is a river, not a canal bud, but it depends on what you want to catch. In the City centre the chub fishing is superb and feeder fishing minced beef with steak as a hook-bait is deadly.
