Anybody use a preston innovations rod on the river for match/pleasure fishing?

Never owned one but feedback would be good on which to purchase!

Thanks in advance

I've got the 13 ft float and the 12ft feeder

Not used on the rivers but a pleasure to use on still waters

The float rod is so well balanced you can hold it all day no problem

I had a look at a 14ft Preston Carbonactive which is now out of production but I think the Absolute has replaced it. It's a lovely rod, well built with good kit. I also looked at a Fox Warrior 14ft Waggler and a Drennan Matchpro Ultralight, also 14ft.

The Preston was the heaviest and least well-balanced of the trio (but still a fine rod) and the Ultralight was the best rod of the three by a mile. However I wasn't in the market to spend £189 and got the chance to buy the Fox for £30 from a fellow club member.

It's a compromise, but the Fox is a lovely rod for fishing the wag for tench and for a bit of trotting for chub and barbel.

A lot of people on here use Preston float rods and like them.

for what it's worth, i have a preston excel 13 ft which is very good for river trotting. Fast action, light enough to hold all day, very well balanced with surprising reserves of power should you need it. Definitely recommended.

Thanks anglers!

I've seen the 14ft completion feeder from Preston and the people I spoke to say that will be fine for where I'm going to use it.

Thanks again

Which one would you use for match river fishing?

It all depends on the venue but when I did match fish mainly on the Thames it would be on the feeder middle for bream or far bank for chub. The tree carbon active rods I have would more than likely cover most commercial matches over the season.

I have the 13, 17 and 14ft Excel float rods, the 14ft Absolute and the Excel Super feeder and can say with my hand on heart they are absolutely some of the finest rods on the market, but saying that I have just purchased the Drennan 14ft Aycolite float rod for trotting as it is just a shade lighter and faster in the tip than the Preston rods for river trotting, either way you will not be disappointed...The Prestons just pip the drennan to the post on build quality!

Forgot to say that All Preston rods are top quality whether you by the top of the range Absolution or the budget range! also take a look at the Korum range of rods too, They are Prestons specialist branch, also top notch gear and like Drennan, do not market Inferior products :)

Be carefull using expensive gear where you live mate, you might get it lifted :D

Its about the same where I come from...Pilsley, near tibshelf, thats why all my tackle is up in Chorley at the other halfs :)
