Depends on the style of coarse fishing concerned, the target species and the method employed. There is no single test curve that can do it all. Then there is the fact that the bulk of coarse rods are not given test curve ratings. Such ratings are usually given to specialist and carp rods. The vast bulk of float and feeder rods will not have a designated TC rating.

Starting out as a lad in the 70s I recall the avon being considered the all rounder, 11-12ft 0.75-1lb tc through action? Mine would be either chucking out an 1/2oz bomb or a loafer/avon or occasionally a waggler. Sloppy on the river for trotting but I managed with it some how :)

Frothy's just managed to say what I was pretty much thinking when I read the original post earlier but somehow couldn't word into a reply :)

I think the term "all rounder" could be quite a subjective thing depending on what fishing is available to you and what interests you to the point of pursuing, I accept it might not be the best option for many individual applications but for the all rounder I would have said something very similar both in terms of tc and action.
