Bait ideas for steady 6ft or so deep canal.
I have a blender and have tried bread and hemp and all I got was yet more Dace, Gudgeon and tiny Roach. Size 18 2lb hook length and 4lb diawa sensa line. They seem to like the red maggot.

Inspired ideas go lol.....

Are you sure there is anything else in there other than Dace Gudgeon & tiny Roach ?

You could stick one of those on a size 6 hook and try to catch a big Perch :)

how wide is the canal ?
have you tried chopped worm and caster on the nearside shelf ?
start off with a small piece of worm over the chopped worm and caster<
by doing this,if you miss a bite, your worm should still be on the hook,
if you had fished caster and missed a bite you would have been "shelled"
and had to change the caster,
far side of the canal, groundbait feeder with chopped worm and caster
again, but with caster and worm cocktail on the hook,
If the canal is fairly clear,i would scale main line down to around
2.5lb reflo power line to a 1.5lb hooklength and try tubertini 808 hooks
in 16 18 or 20 sizes depending on bait,
you will get different replies to mine but at least you will be forming
some ideas on which way to go,
if you have a pole, try that, you will get better presentation,

Yes, the old boy a few pegs down had skimmers, Perch a few roach and then a huge pike onto a Perch he already had on the line. He only had a size 20 hook and 2 lb line

Obviously didn't land it

Is the canal clear and is that the season for going so fine? If so evenings or cloudy days could well see the bigger fish feed better.

You should have asked him what he was doing.
