I saw this new range of specialist luggage was released just a couple of months ago.

Has anyone got any feedback on it so far?

I'm specifically looking at the two rod sleeve and quiver but could also be tempted by the 40lt rucksack and unhooking mat which looks a step up in quality from the fox specialist range I have at the moment.

Compact 20L roving bag, unhooking mat, short single rod sleeve and double rod sleeve are all spot on for me.

I’ll be getting the new Drennan 2 rod quiver (which will take padded rod sleeves) in the new year.

It’s a pity that I can’t find a replacement single rod quiver to replace the old worn out one that I’ve used for the past 20 years otherwise I’d get one of those too.

I have some of the older super specialist gear, the three rod quiver (wwhich does hole the made up sleeves) and the super specilist single rod sleeves and they're good. I like the quiver because I can fit several rod tubes, a brolly and some rod/banksticks in it ok.

I prefer the korum rucksack to the drennan ones and if taking one rod tube I prefer the korum quiver.

Re: Drennan Specialist luggages

I got one of the new Drennan 2 rod compact quivers today, it was slightly narrower than I thought it was going to be as it only takes one rod on the outside if you use a padded rod sleeve (or 2 rods if not in rod sleeves) but it’s perfect for when I’m fishing for Barbel on my local stream as I only use one rod anyway.

I,ve checked it out but typical of me I prefer the old Korum rucksack that's now discontinued

Why do you prefer the Korum rucksack? The new Drennan ones look great in the pics, haven't seen one in the flesh yet.

I prefer the korum roaving rucksack because of the harder formed base. I like the fact that it has a couple of caribiners to clip things too.
I don't like how the little clip connections for the unhooking matt hang onto the pocket opening on the back pocket on the drennan and unless you cut them off they sort of compell you to buying a drennan matt.

I do have some drennan luggage but I just prefer the korum luggage.

The Korum 20 litre daysack is a good. I can get more in it than I expected. The mesh on the outer pockets allow you to see what's in them, and the two shoulder straps are comfortable.

I've looked for the Drennan 20 litre shoulder bag but can't find it in the shop I use. Looking at the photos when it was launched, it seemed to me to have just one shoulder strap. I think that's a disadvantage.

It's definitely a disadvantage if you want a rucksack! However, I wouldn't have bought one if it were a rucksack. As far as I'm concerned, it's way too small to have proper rucksack straps. If you do want a Drennan rucksack there are two in the range.

Chris, do those female clips hanging onto the outer pocket zip not get in the way at all?
I can't weigh up why the designer didn't have them stitched on higher up where they'd be out of the way when not in use.

They haven't got in my way at any time, or in any way. I'd suggest that the positioning of them is entirely with the matching unhooking mat in mind. It sits nicely on the pocket below when it's fitted. The biggest issue I had with the bag was that it was a bit smaller than I'd anticipated. I just took that as a reason to slim down my gear even further than I'd initially intended, which was no bad thing. However, for anyone intending to use it with a particular tackle box, I'd suggest that they check it fits before buying.

To my mind it's definitely a bag for the minimalist. If you want to pack tackle, reels, waterproofs, bait, lunch and a flask, it's likely to be way, way too small. Mine is pretty well full with the Greys compact tackle box, a small bait box, a float box, a towel, a bait pouch, a catty and a small towel.

Ok, it doesn't sound like it holds any more than my orvis sling pack then really. You've seen the sling pack Chris, what do you reckon?

If my memory serves, it's bigger than your sling pack. I can't see you squeezing even the compact Greys tackle box in that.

It's surprising what you can fit in the sling pack Chris. Although you have seen it so you know better than me how it compares to the sling pack. Orvis do do a larger sling pack but I got the smaller one purposely as I don't need anything bigger for roaving the river with the float rod or a light leger set up.
If I do take more gear like heavier leads, bags of pellets, groundbait and stuff i've found the korum roaving rucksack ok, it's sort of an i between size rucksack so not a big heavy lump to carry round....still to big for the majority of me fishing though thank £uck! ;).
