Hi all.
Inexperienced and looking to go out to a local commercial this week.
Is a maggot feeder any good or even feasible on a lake?
Plus with the warm, muggy weather, what bait is suitable?
Any advice welcome, although not too technical as it will fry my tiny brain.
Regards

A maggot feeder can work well dependent on the species you are likely to catch. As a novice( I'm not much more) I would recommend you use a method feeder with micro pellets and either pellets, corn or meat(spam) on the hook or hair! It is easy to become a little despondent if you don't catch, although maggots usually are reliable, so improve your chances by using a method or pellet feeder!

I have assumed you do not intend to float fish as maggots is a very good bait for all manner of fish either on the bottom or up in the water! Just have a go and ring the changes if you are not catching and remember that it's called fishing not catching!

Thanks for that.
I've looked at method feeders, but I've never tied a hair rig.
Can you use method feeders with just the hook?
I will probably end up using float, as I kind of know what I'm doing there.

It can depend on you target fish … A week ago I could not go wrong with a maggot feeder saying that this week it’s all been on the method feeder with a 8mm banded pellet size 16 hook and a 4” hook length

Don’t be fooled into casting to the middle of the pond/lake try casting a rod length or two and fish the margin

Maggot and method feeders both work well on commercials

If you can when you get to your swim have a walk around and look and talk to some of the others fishing to get an idea what they’re using and what method

Try with a couple of different baits, sweetcorn, peas, pellets maggots

I always take a couple of slices of bread with me it a good go to bait either on the hook or hair rigged

Yes some lake won’t let you fish with floating bread or bread on the hook … best to check the fisheries rules
I have use 10mm bread flake boilies and no one has said anything about using them I thing it’s because they do not float
Use guru bayonet to attach the bread Billies
