I note that Zig rigs with the foam lure set several feet off the bottom seem to be a popular and successful method for catching carp in the summer. Is it effective for any other species? Anyone tried it with or without modifications? Could be very handy in some of the weedy venues I sometimes fish where standard popup rigs are still buried and required range rules out float fishing.

I have always preferred pop ups on a zig to foam.
Not so much in weed as I usually find a clear patch, but great when fishing 30ft deep quarries trying to locate the fish!

The problem is, at what depth do you start?
And... not near the bottom where colour doesn't matter as everything is the same shade of black....

At two foot deep they were midwater, as it was only four feet deep, could see fish cruising past at that depth, and they were not taking on the bottom.
