View attachment 8325 I'm not very good, but it was my first attempt a year or so ago. One of these is a gift from a good float maker, some have top that take a starlite for evening fishing late.

They look nice, for me, the stems are on the thick side, even Georges are a little on the thick side for my preference. The starlight one George has made you looks very useful.

I have a few Drake floats, including some Quill Avons. There's definitely a certain aesthetic quality to them. They as if they were made decades ago and kept in a draw ever since. I've seen worse in display cabinets. However, the tips are a bit too short and thin for my type of fishing. It might be a different story if I were fishing slower paced, pegged rivers where the average trot is a much shorter distance.
