So I spent a bit of time the night before sorting things out as the object of the day was to spend some time with my newly found 30 ish daughter and put names to faces. As I couldnt fit it all on the Guzzi the only option was to bring the £300 car, as I was bringing stuff I offered the use of burner kettle etc but when expected to bring brekkie for everybody I declined and withdrew my offer.
It was clear skies on Portland and as I drove across the causeway I wondered if the kitchen sink aproach [2 chairs, 2 brollies, seatbox etc] was perhaps overkill, but hitting the Puddletown byepass in what could be described as a small amount of rain I was pleased to stop at Bere Regis to buy fuel and coffee. The next bit went as the first bit really and eventually found myself at the LIF.
Having arrived I was pleased to be able to abandon my car next to Chav Ps spanking peugot which he had slept in cos he couldnt afford bandb and proceeded to light storm kettle and chat [good bloke that fellow]. Various people arrived and big Phil had a quick dig and chat [wise decision not to join the forum] and then some blind old sod [who later turned out to be a chap called Simon] required the services of a good few people to park the car I felt guilty enough to move mine to make some space. Fortunately the arrival of Kelly improved the day immediately, and meeting Jerry who had kindly got maggots for me also improved the mood.
Finally everybody ffed off and left me and Kelly to set up a rod [a waggler on the Itchen?] and fishing occured. Slightly later than advertised Mick B arrived and chat and fishing advice followed but disgraced myself by doing opportunist bream catching and he took the gap with big Phil .
General socialising, tea and bacon sarnies followed and during the last tea break a slightly balding ginger chap with the longest rod I have ever seen apeared and had a chat, it wasnt until he stepped off the sleeper that I realised that the poor sod was not only balding and ginger he was also verticly challenged and the rod was perhaps not as long as I thought.
Around dusk and suddenly loads of happy anglers apeared after an obviously enjoyable day and gentle passing of the ways occured, what a fine bunch of characters we have on FM and how easy it it to let a small bit of text inspire ott posting,[sorry chaps]
Nice one fellas

Slightly Balding Ginger Chap, I like you Tim.

Most just say that Ginger Tw*t :D

Thats the thing about FM, good anglers, good company and a good laugh.

What more could you ask for on a fish in. Before some one says fish, we caught plenty of them also.

The only think i didn't see was Tim's sign saying, Cafe Open. But you knew where it was, the Kitchen was all over the backside. Big Smile here

OK, as it seems we have to do our own reports (not putting the finger on any seatbox, oops anybody;)) Here goes...................

I think I was one of the last to arrive (you might well smile Tony;)) and it was really good to meet up with many familiar faces again and a few new ones. As it was raining I decided to hover in the mill area and have a couple of cups of tea and chat to whoever would listen...About 09.45 I decided to drive up upstream to the top of the beat and proceeded to have another cup of Earl Grey and chat to the Peaky Blinders (aka Itsnot********* and his brother in law) – shortly after it stopped raining and I set up to fish – rod, pin, bucket, net – must have been about 10.15ish.

Anyway, had a very fruitful session fish wise – had a few chats with the ‘Peakys’ during the session over some more Earl Grey, also Ed(surf) on his travels and Windy who appeared to have a rain cloud in tow that deposited some wet stuff in the close proximity for a short while.

Packed up about 14.45 and drove back to the mill to have another chat with anyone down that end – another enjoyable fish’in and looking forward to the next..BTW, just to prove that Sam isn’t the only one who can take photos of a ‘static’ grayling here’s one of mine - $ods law it was only the smallest one that would keep still....................

I might've known it !!

Last to arrive, fishing at 10.15, cups of tea, and, well, one helluva lot of 'chats', AND you still caught fish - amazing !!

Mind you , class will out, as the grayling proves.........and probably a lot less wet than some I could mention. I bet you didn't even take a brollie !

ps Very pretty fish though, and an even prettier reel..

Tim. I'm beginning to think that you never realised the " bring brekkies" thing was a joke?

Having sampled the wares on a number of occasions, I can confirm Tim's tea making capabilities outweigh his waggler fishing several times over.....:eek:mg::wh

In all seriousness, the wood fired kettle does make very good tea....:w
