Do you attend fishing fishing meetings.

I ask because over the years I have attended numerous fish specific meetings organised by bodies such as the Pike anglers club, the Zander anglers club , the National association of specialist anglers, lots of mutual specialist group meetings , slide shows given by both specialist and match anglers alike such as Bob Nudd and Trefor West and on the odd occasion have even been asked to give the odd talk myself.
Yesterday I attended another mini conference of the Zander Anglers Club organised by Neville Fickling in Bottesford in Cambridgeshire, a journey of some two hundred and fifty miles round trip.
Three speakers gave their own fascinating experiences of their time and catches on three differant premier waters.
These events help so much to both help and inspire any angler who attends and are extremely useful also in networking with other like minded anglers.
Anyone here been to any ?

The two zed men we saw that night John were scheduled to do a joint talk but one had to abstain on account of his wife being taken ill but his partner did an excellent job for the both of them as did the other two speakers on there own accounts!

In my working career I spent most of my week overseas so when at home for (rare) weekends it would have been marital suicide to then adandon the family and go to a fishing club meeting . . . . .

In my single days however it was a different story, as it is now in my retirement.

In my experience very few members will bother to go to a club meeting, and this tends to leave the floor open to the, shall we say, more enthusiastic members, usually those on the various committees?

AGM's can become very heated on occasion and many will remember last year's BS meeting . . . . the least said about that the better . . . . . .

As for meetings where a demonstration or a talk is on the menu then those are a diffent matter but agian, very few seem to turn up on those nights.

I will amend my previous answer by adding that attending committee meetings, work parties etc even though retired there seems more than enough going on to conspire to keep me away from fishing.

I detest committee meetings with a passion. Which is a bit unfortunate when you find yourself on a fishing club committee, largely by default.

When it comes to EA presentations, single species/specialist groups, talk-ins and the like, I won't knock those that enjoy them, but they leave me cold. It may be different if I already knew the bulk of those present. I'm not the best when it comes to interacting with large groups of random strangers. I hate being in that kind of situation and that means I avoid them like the plague. I think I'd marginally rather have my wisdom teeth removed, via my rectum, without the benefit of anesthetic.

I've been fortunate enough to have long chats with some good anglers,that were happy to give up their time,to this day I have never seen a better angler on the waggler than Ken Giles,a real perfectionist,I watched him fish a BAA bigun at Quatford on the Severn,he weighed 47lbs odd if remember correctly,the biggest float weight in the match,which was fished on the W.Avon,middle and lower Severn,amazing and awe inspiring. Committee meetings are purgatory to me. One year I was staying at Avonmead guest house,owned by Ray and Betty Whales and I started chatting to a guy who only fished for roach,mainly on bread,always on the float sadly I can't remember his name,but I hang on his every word,his knowledge was boundless,as was his enthusiasm,marvellous...
