Hi all, hope someone out there can HELP. Going fly fishing in the morning but not feeling confident about having a good catch. This is a normal feeling as not had much success. Manely use lures but never seem to catch more than one fish if any at all. Any advice???/forum/smilies/confused_smiley.gif

All depends where you are going, but there's plenty being caught on the AW reservoirs on dry fly.

Not tried dry fly before but do have some in box. going to some new place 2morrow with ma m8 but cant remember the name. its near harthill (scotland). just hope i've got a picture to show off.

We are getting into the period where dry fly is going to catch lots and lots of fish, especially daddy longlegs and hopper imitations.

It also pays to have a few muddler minnows and zonkers to pull through the waves using a slow sinker.

Diawl Bach works well for me at this time of year, as do PTN's.

Sedges, brown version and sedge pupa are good to have.

Larger version of gold ribbed hares ear and also fish fry patterns.

One of the things the Diawl Bach imitates is Corixa, the Lesser Water Boatman. These come to the surface to breathe, then struggle down a foot or so and hang on to weeds or the bottom. If you see "boils" of quietly feeding fish in a few inches of water, pick a diawl with a big, red head (most Corixa have big red eyes) and try it. It can only be too shallow if a pounder can't keep its back wet - about three inches!
