I will be traveling to Dublin (from New York)with my son the second week of January. We were thinking of fishing for salmon in the Liffey over at Islandbridge. We are not fly fishermen and prefer spinning rods and reels. I need some help with equipment, what should we bring with us. Rod size and weight, reel size, line weight, etc.? Also, any other ideas or spots for fishing in that area during that time of year? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Ray, the river liffey for Salmon I'm afraid is a waste of time. It was march last year when the first one was caught. If you still really want to fish for salmon the stretch owned by Dublin Salmon anglers at Island bridge is open on new years day. I don't fish for salmon myself but most of the early salmon are caught on worms. You can get more info from Rory's fishing tackle shop on temple bar in centre of Dublin. Personaly I would go pike fishing further up the river at the memorial park stretch.
