Well, Rontro, you've obviously not had one of the little beggars fly into your ear. Its at the adult stage they buzz.

I know that very well mate, and I suppose I don't mind them being called buzzers in the adult stage.

But why the heck are they universally called buzzers in the pupa stage?

And in any event, why not call them what they really are - Chironomidae?

Or if you can't manage that, what about Midges?
