Terry Ward, Head Bailiff at Whitney Court on the upper Wye, has negotiated with game-fishing specialists, Sportfish, the provision of prizes for the biggest pike caught on the Whitney Court beats between November 1st this year and March 14th 2017.
There are a few rules to observe: 1) no live-baits to be used 2) ‘takes’ to be struck immediately 3) semi-barbed or barbless hooks only 4) fish to be returned to the water as soon as possible.
Whitney Court is not what you’d call a ‘prolific’ pike water but good fish do show up each year; the heaviest in the last Whitney Court Challenge was 22lb 6oz.
So…fill those freezers with sprats, mackers and herring; top-up the lure-box and re-new your line!
Tickets are available through the Wye & Usk Foundation at £20.00 per day. Should you fail to catch you’d still have spent the day in the glorious Wye Valley!
