Where you fishing at Atcham guys? The PA or Lymm waters? If it was the PA then next time try fishing about 10 feet down from the oak tree on the car park. There is - or was - a little known dip in the riverbed that usually shelters some very large barbel. But, and this is the big but, the swim is only there when the water level is starting to drop. Otherwise it's just a sheer drop from the bank to the water. Lymm waters are turning up some good barbel I have been told on very good authority. Not tried them myself yet though.

We were on the Lymm side mate. Sedge and Barney are the only PA members that I know of and Barney is a confirmed Ribble man.

I must get a Lymm ticket. PA really pi**ed me off - sorry for that language but I feel very strongly about it - when they took over the upper stretch. I'd fished that water since I was kid and first started fishing. I went there last year and nobody was fishing - mid week. I found a lovely spot when this chap walks up and asks if I'm with PA. No I said honestly. Day tickests???? No chance. So I ended up driving back miles and no fishing even though nobody else was to be seen on the banks. That sort of thing annoys me greatly.

How did you get on this week Mike?, I was wondering about your verdict on your new rod as I am getting itchy fingers especialy after seeing the Titanium specialist is now down to ?100 from WMAC. I need a new rod after breaking my feeder rod on my last trip and as the specialist comes with an avon top and quiver section it looks better every time I check it out. :-}~

From the way it performed it seemed very good. I think i would like a 31/2 to 4oz tip as well, but apart from that no complaints. Mind you only caught small chub so far.

I nearly said wait for me to catch a Barbel before commiting to buying one, but knowing me you'll be waiting till next year mate.

Cheers Mike I think I'll go for it, there aren't many if any barbel up here although I read the odd report of a chub and very occasional barbel being caught (about 3 of each in the last 5 years) on my local river. It's mostly roach, perch, greyling, trout and salmon. I agree about the higher test curves though as the river I fish is quite powerfull and the 3oz will be standard fare I think as this was the test of the tip I used on my previous rod. :-}~

Hi Mike, I've just recieved the order I placed last week for the Technium Specialist, I took it out the case a section at a time and liked the look of the tips, the avos style top with the scew section in the top eye, and the butt sections. Yes Butt SECTIONS, the damned thing was broke in two. Just my luck, I phoned and WMAC are going to try to get me a replacement today although it took exactly a week for the first to be delivered so I won't hold my breath. :-}~

Shame mate, christend mine with DJ last week on the Dove with a couple of nice barbs, found it to be very powerful indeed. Going for some more this afternoon.

The replacement rod arrived and hey, only one butt section, great. Unfortunetly the eyes on the 1 1/2 oz tip are not in line so now I'm waiting for it to be replaced. But I am impressed with the speed of the replacemen, less than 24 hours is great. The rod feels as good as it looks can't wait to get it wet. :-}~

No not yet, every time I get ready to go something crops up.
For the past few weeks I've been fishing the canal but with the weather changing I'll be back on the river soon.
Hmmmm might go this weekend but at this time of year it's usually excellent stickfloating for roach and dace.
