Precisely

And this can be true of any magazine at any given time. I stopped buying all mags this year because I had become so disillusioned with all of them. I would consider my angling to be not unlike Rasmus'....a fairly experienced all rounder but there just isn't a magazine that caters for that sort of person IMO. They are all either too basic, too specialised or too one species. Fine if that fits your fishing but it doesn't fit mine & though I enjoyed reading the odd article it really did become the odd article because either it was a species that does nothing for me [carp/pike] a method that does nothing for me [highly specialised & time intensive] or a place that I've got no chance of ever fishing.

Even my beloved Trout & Salmon was abandoned because [again IMO] it should have been re-named "Wild Trout from rivers you can't get on & Salmon from Places I've fished that you can't Afford".

Strange really....I would have thought there were quite a few anglers like me & Ras around.

Based on it's layout, content and limitless supply of opinions on ANY given subject, be it for the novice or the extreme specialist, I'd say FishingMagic is the very magazine Rasmus is looking for and it costs nothing.

If you have the right computer, you can even turn the pages...

The Garden of England!
On that basis we now know he doesn't bivvy or use bite alarms, and that he decribes himself as 'average', enjoys a bit of basic float fishing and legering on stillwaters,

So what's your Beef? He stated that he fished for Carp, do you think all Carp anglers "MUST" use bite alarms and Bivvys, Yates perhaps? I was only trying to give him another option FFS!

Web sites, I don't think they will ever take off ;)

Seriously though, for relaxed reading whatever the magazine, book or even the Angling Times, there is nothing better than sitting in a comfortable chair reading the genuine thing, and if you spill your drink, be it coffee, tea, beer or wine, the only damage done is to your pride.

I'll not go as far as one CSG lad did when talking about the new CSG leather-bound copy of 'Chevin' when he said how much pleasure he gets after a hard days work :)confused: he sits in police patrol car all day) from fingering his leather bound collection. Three months on and he's still getting ribbed over that on the Group forum.

Hi, Rasmus, Whichever strategy you choose, I think you will find that after a year you will have all the bases covered since the same items are ground out like a vicar's sermons year after year after year. It's very rare that something innovative or worthwhile comes along - like your information on bombardos for instance.

As someone of limited fishing experience I have found IYCF the most informative of all the magazines I have tried but would agree that its core market is the new or inexperienced angler, so by defination, it should be the best read for me. The main problem I have found with all mags is that most contributors are promoting the tackle companies that sponsor them. Is there any need for specific hooks, lines etc. when detailing rigs or set ups? The real benefits of FM are the unbiased advice and the forum dialogue which enables topics to be fully covered from a variety of perspectives.

Most of the time...no.

Just because some angler can't see past Fox (because they pay the bills), doesn't mean something made by Middy won't be just as effective.

Just an example but I've never known a fish to reject a bait because they had gripes with Mustad.

YES - same case in Denmark. Winter editions: How to catch cod. Spring time: Hov to catch garfish (the trouble here is how not to catch garfish) etc.

Thats probably why Im looking to another country - its just a different approach. I used to read some german fishing magazines, very informative, very different to Denmark. I don't know how many articles describing bombardos there has been in DK the last 15 years, but it is MANY!

Don't you worry about that. They truly enjoy it, and will eagerly grab any opportunity. And if no opportunity lends itself, one of them will start a thread about otters, cormorants or wildlife preservation.

Otters have had another recent run, cormorants are a soft target, I think the current Hydropower article could be the next "biggy"

The very best fishing magazine ever printed was Specialist Angler 1985 on.
If any FM forum members ever get a chance to read a copy do so and you will see what a magazine written and produced by genuine anglers can really look like.

To our friend from Denmark I suggest you get buddied up with a few UK anglers and ask them to send you whatever you cannot obtain locally.

I have angling friends all over the world and we regularly exchange gear and ideas, using web cams to demonstrate the finer details of specific problems, buying on behalf of each other to save on exchange rates and shipping costs and loaning specialist gear if one of us is fishing an area for a short time only.

The young entry of today have an abundance of fishing based comics and magazines but they are produced to enhance profit while seeking to snare a regular sales through spurious offers.
