I may be mistaken, but is'nt connection availability checked through your BT line.

Seems strange, have you done the online AOL connection check ???.

Beccy AOL got BT to check my line out first, prior to sending my free modem, but as Merv says you do need a minimum RAM

Could be the exchange. They have not upgraded all them yet. They need so many people in the area wanting it first. Do you have a cable company in your area.

Just tried it again and this is the message I get...

"Our records indicate that you may have equipment in your home that is incompatible with broadband. This is likely to be either ISDN, Home Highway, digital line splitting equipment or unsuitable telephone line cabling.

Please contact BT for advice on how to remove this equipment."

.......suppose I sjould just do as they say and phone BT

check if you can get broadband Here

If your neighbours got it, you'll be able to, unless he lives miles away.

Anybody who knows even the slightest thing about PC's knows that AOL is a pile of cack.
Look at your active processes and see how much memory it uses.

forgot to say, but it's probably been mentioned a million times before, ADSL Guide is totally impartial and is the best guide on the net.

beecy what is the max speed u can get on your dial up modem?.if its 28kbs it could be that your line is on something called a dacs ,which is used to make one line into two lines, in simple terms,if your getting a normal speed ,40kbs or above there shouldnt be a reason why u cant have broadband

if you double click on the two little tele screens in the bottom right of your monitor screen ,it should come up with what speed your running at.

Sorted !!

Got myself on broadband, it turns out that the reason I couldn?t have it was because we were on the BT light user billing which does not support broadband so have had to go up to package 1.

installed it last night so I can now get as much porn as I want as fast as I want.

Opted for BT, mainly because a few lads at work are on it and have no problems.

Got the AOL stuff off my computer with no problems (so far) using smart restore on XP. I had a chat with the IT bod at work and he recons the older versions of AOL were a sod to get off but the latest version 9.0 is ok to remove.

have you changed yet John?

The wife has told me BT rang this morning and are ringing back so i will see what they say
