another Drennan fan, but the 2.8m mega carp net pole. i like that it has a short removable top to i can take the pole off to weigh fish in the net and return them quickly. also if I'm fishing down a bank and don't want to fish the top coming off, although it hasn't yet, it has a second thread on the main part of the pole. not sure if they still do it but hope they do as I've recommended it to a few people over the last few years;)

Okay. I'll do as I'm told then :)
I would like a hex/ally one but I suspect it will be heavier and too hard to find anyway, so the carbon one will do. Thanks for all the input guys.

Drennan Super Spec is excellent IMO.

I previosly had a Fox telescopic specialist handle. Outrageously expensively and the joints wore out in two seasons - avoid!

Looking to buy a Drennan S/S Twistlok handle......

Best price I can find is around £39.50 but with £6.50 postage makes it expensive so wil try my local tackle shop as well!

I don't expect to get it much cheaper but every little helps..........

Thanks in anticipation!

Might have to look at the Series 7 jobbie but I like quality..

Drennan Super Specialist or if you don't like the unreasonable negativity that surrounds that one, try the Gardner Specialist.

Not much choice beyond those two IMO.

Not unreasonable bad press - it is not man enough for the job! I have just worn through my second 'lok-tite' whatever it is called , device. It just gets worn out.......

I don't over tighten, I clean it like the barrel of a shot gun and follow the advise given....

I won't be replacing it with another Drennan - it should last longer than a year and a half (with a replacement part in this period)

That's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. However, eight positives in this thread to your negative hints that it perhaps has had unreasonable bad press.
Is it perfect? No. Is it industructable, infallible? No. Is it anywhere near as bad as the bitching on forums would suggest, not a chance. Is it amongst the best of its type? Yes, not that there's a vast choice.

Doesn't the fact that those forum comments exist suggest a possible fault somewhere along the line though Sam? If things were totally fine, with only a few minor issues, then it would barely get a mention.

I've had problems with 2 x shimano baitrunners (6010) where a small component in the bail system has snapped rendering the reel useless. As soon as I phoned up Felindre, they knew what the fault was. The second time it happened was in Cuba this last summer, luckily I'd taken a spare. Now the Shimano 6010 baitrunner has more fans than detractors however I'd strongly argue that the specific models I have do have a serious weakness.

The fact that there are naysayers does suggest a problem, but just how big a problem is it? If you listened to all the internet chatter you'd think that the Drennan was utterly useless, it simply isn't. I've had a problem with it myself and freely admit it. It was due to my own cack handedness and wanting it just that little bit tighter. However, the amount of bashing this product and the possible issues with it is, IMO, excessive. Smacks of of a bandwagon that too many are only too keen to jump on. My own experience of the Drennan, my own inadequacies aside, is very good. It's about two years since mine was sorted and it's not missed a beat since. Will the crucial part wear out eventually? Yes it will, the nature of the beast. Is it a drama? Not really, replaced easily and for free for the sake of an email or a trip to your Drennan stockist. The analogy I'd make is that complaining about the part that eventually fails on the Drennan is akin to moaning that your brake pads or tyres wear out if you drive your car.

In no way is that a defence of Drennan, a denial that there can be issues or that some folks legitimately don't rate them. If anyone knows of a better alternative (similar sort of carbon telescopic design) I'm only too happy to hear it. As yet, the only one I've come across is the Gardner and I gave that as an alternative. People moan that it's too heavy, mainly because of the dirty great metal locking mechanism.;) I'm quite content that, despite the Drennan not being perfect or indestructable, it's the best of its type. I'd not own it if I didn't believe that was the case.

I have one, made by Keenets before they went pear-shaped, and it's heavy! It does work though and very good too, but the threads have worn and the only way I can use it is to fit a Pro-Logic connector in between, that means it can only fit one net now unless I keep changing the connector over.

So, I bought a Drennan. Therefore, I do hope you're right Sam and it does last the course of time.

No just the telescopic 2.6m 7 series , made of the same stuff.......I believe.
Very light, slim and strong, I use mine for fishing the Wye and holds up very well.

I have one of these, as well as the Super Specialist. Considering how light and thin it is, it's amazingly strong. I'll happily use it for general fishing but leave it at home if I'm barbelling or expect to encounter the odd better carp on lighter tactics. I don't consider it a handle for bigger nets and fish.
