    Where did this term for chub come from? I seem to be seeing it more and more recently, it's almost like it's a fashionable term to use for those in the know.

    To me it looks like an anglicised spelling of the French name chevesne, which when spoken does sound similar to how chevin would be prounced in English. Chevesne is French name for chub.

    they are so common in these parts we call them Chavin.

    I prefer the German nickname of "Dummkopf" (blockhead), I don't know any other countries names.

    The Germans have obviously recognised that chub are suckers for the block-end feeder tactic.
