Whenever we have threads about fishing magazine there are always some who complain about the adverts.

Here's why adverts are needed.
[*]If there were no advertisers paying the publishers, the magazine would cost much more. The publishers would have to getthe moneythey would have earned from selling advertising space from somwehere. I suspect that trying to sell a monthly fishing magazine for £5 or £6 might not help your sales much.[*]Tackle companies advertise for a reason. Itcan helptheir sales. Without those sales many of them wouldn't be in business. A vibrant tackle trade is good for anglers because it means more shops stay in business and you have more tackle to choose from.[*]When anglers are looking to buy tackle, the adverts are a useful source of information. I've just been putting more effort into my piking and the ads in Pike and Predators etc. have shown me what is available. I even bought some gear.[*]You don't have to read the adverts. Your're reading this and there's plenty of adverts to the left and right of your screen.[/list]

You are right Matt......the ads can be a way of locating that bit of gear you can't find locally.

Anyway, a good ad is better reading than some of the articles lately!

No offence Matt.

But by starting this Brand New Thread you have proved one thing. Same old same old.

unfortunately im not a writer matt and realise its not an easy job, the articles that bug me are theones like ringer and nudd churn out week after week sameoldstuff season after season its the same with bowler and hayes.the articles you write with the other specialists are ok but could do with a bit more detail i know you are limited in the space they give you in the at.i would rather see a good mix of writers and articles instead of the same stale ones we get at the moment.

It's probably not the actual space allocated to the 'adverts' Matt, (everyone realises that publications need advertisers to keep cost down to an affordable level) but the'product placements' and the way some angling writers push certain products. Some articles are no more than blatant advertising for whichever company just happen to be sponsoring the said angler at that time. Read a similar article next year by he same writer (which invariably we will) and you'll not do half as well unless you use XYZ products, where as today its got to be UVW

Or am I just a little bit too cynical and that all these writers are only ever trying to do is to get us more and bigger fish by sharing the 'in' products with us?

Sorry to add to your frustration, Baz.

Matt.

The reason for the same old same old remark was because it was mentioned in the other two threads. So why start a new thread on the same thing? How many times has the reasons for advertising been written about just lately?

No problem with adverts, I think we've had the value of that pointed out many times.

Product placement,now that's a different story.

I even madesarky pointsabout it on here, in my article of nearly 6 years ago, even down to the tea I had for breakfast.

So, it's not new,it has been discussed year in, year out, probably for at least as long as this site as existed..

Matt theres a big difference with adverts here and in a paper/mag

here is free ......still have to pay for a paper/mag !

then as Fred said product placement ,the one mag I got this year half was adverts and the articles had the writers sponsors products

no problems ,I dont mind if Im learning a bit here and there but make the mag FREE !!
