It would not be the first time that a manufacturer sells the same product to two different marketing companies seen this a few times.

And only one of them is sold as an Okuma reel. and the other is sold at well below half what the Okuma sells for.

The obvious answer is that one is just a rip off of the other, but the sceptic in me thinks they could both be made by the same company and sold to different marketing companies and just sold at greatly differing prices as one brand name commands a higher price than the other.

Sadly the answer to that will not be known by any of us on here, although thoughs that bought the higher priced version will be most insistent that they are not the same reel, won't they :wh:eek:mg:

They actually both come with the same neoprene protective case. so even that's not a give away either.

They are similar at a glance but in detail they are completely different.

I noticed that. The blue un is sold as an Avanti Trinium and if it really is nobbut a blue Sheffield then at 40 sovs it is an absolute BARGAIN.

Who wants to take the risk ?

IF it is built by Okuma then its likely to be based on the Aventa rather than the twin bearing reels like the Aventa Pro, Sheffield & Kennet. The selling price of the Aventa towards the end of last year wasn't much more than £40.

My gut feeling is that they are both made in high numbers by the same manufacturer - not Okuma - and then branded by different companies and sold accordingly.

A good example of paying for the name.

I suspected as much....do you know in what way they are different ?

Well I have had another look and decided it would be easier to find what's the same on them and so far I can only give you the two cross head screws...although the composition/grade of the material may differ?

If you look inside the reel, there is a difference. Certainly not the same reel rebranded

One is Aluminium the other is an Aluminium alloy similar to Dural, much more robust and much less likely to go out of true if knocked.

Also the quality of the bearings on the Okuma are to a very much higher spec and the machining is much more precise, you will notice this if you remove the bearings from the Okuma, they slip out of the housing and back in again, the fit is tight and precise.
The Okuma has ready spare parts availability and parts are easily interchangeable with out the need of any engineering skill or specialist tooling.

The copy looks good and is of a very similar design……AND that is about as far as the similarity goes.
