Heroes, or angler's who inspired me, I suppose are the same thing :).

**** Walker, Peter Stone, Bernard Venables, Billy Lane and Tag Barnes.

It will not go unnoticed, all are from a particular period in angling.

Oddly not a pike angler amongst them. :)

Another great admirer of Stoney Derek, although he did not appear on my radar until some years after DW and FJ (early 60's). One of the nicest people you could meet.............unless you took the pi$$ out of bream;).

Not a bad turnout I suppose...

Ivan Marks had 3 votes, Terry Lampard 2 votes and a mish mash of other individual scores of 1 vote.....a few didn't actually vote for one person. Thanks for your contribution guys....

....I now pronounce Ivan Marks... The Greatest Angler that Ever Lived.....

As voted for by the Members of the Fishing Magic forum.

......but was he REALLY?

first post in here so here goes.
i will always remember as a 13 yr old in the late seventies , going on a trip to fish the river Bann in Northern Ireland.Because the only waters we had fished as kids were the Dane and local ponds we were clueless as to where to begin.
The secratary of the local club put out a call to Ex world champion , Ian Heaps for some tips.
Not only did he give us tips ,but he also came with us on the trip to help us.
What more can I say

Well said mate.....Ian Heaps is a great guy and I have met him several times when I was in the tackle trade....he was always helpful and often gave my customers advice at our tackle shows that he attended from time to time.

He was a great angler and I reckon he is not far off being the best.....he was certainly a hero ...that's for sure.

Can I vote for Dame Juliana Berners and Izaak Walton for starting it all??

Met Denis White once, a real gentleman for whom nothing was too much trouble.

The "Alreet, Fatha...." will stay with me always.

Hi Dorset.....I have met Denis hundreds of times ..as he was/is a consultant for Maver and when it was time for the Tackle trade shows which all shop owners was invited to of course....Denis was always there.

The "alreet Fatha" is Denis' catchphrase....I think.
