Blimey, I haven't seen numbers like those since I last visited Gunthorpe on the Trent where the damn things sit on the weir booms drying their wings out with the surrounding trees black with 'em :eek:

When I used to rent a cottage on a farm estate that bordered the River Vienne I regularly saw the Fisheries Officers go down to the river shooting cormorants. And as far as I know they are effectively on the 'General Licence' as we know it, in that they can be shot at any time of year.

It looked a nightmare. I'm an RSPB member (at the moment) but this sort of thing cannot possibly go on. I guess man has created the problem with over fishing etc.(I don't remember seeing any cormorants in the 60s) but I cannot contemplate this happening here.
