As it happens I did on one of the chairs I've had down the years.
And here's how. Take out the plastic insert from the backrest tube, then get a bush stale whittle the end down by about an inch so it fits in the tube snugly. Cut off the stale ¾ of an inch from where the snug fit stops. Take half round file put a round half moon shape in the end that will meet the seat bars. Repeat for the other end of the backrest tube. Fit and test for your requirements. If not quite right file the half moon a bit deeper. If it’s completely wrong make two more new ones.
When you are satisfied the angle is right for you, take a drill and dill a small hole half an inch up from the end of the tube and fit a small screw though the tube and into the wood. This stops the stops dropping out as the wood shrinks over time.
Jobs a good’en!

just found this thread. re the jrc xtra lite I have just returned from a 2 day trip to the wye and severn and the seat which I have had for about 4 years has totally collapsed. The aluminium frame has bent like a banana with the result that the seat now touches the floor and I am not particularly heavy, about 12 stones.

Already the stiching has come undone on a stress point at the seat front

I've not got the best reputation regards chairs but wonder if, in light of flight's comment above, I should maybe have given myself the benefit of the doubt on this one...

This was the Contact chair after around three weeks use which I bought in between the first Nomad and the now heavily reinforced second Nomad.

Also a JRC X-lite man and I have recommended them to others as they have always done the business for me....No doubting that every manufacturer gets a 'bad run' at some time or another, so I would take it back and try another one.
My one still as good as new and I would buy another...........

Sounds like a Friday afternoon one Flight, I've had a JRC x-lite specialist for many years now and it's still in good nick - wouldn't swap it.
I bought the model that preceded it and still in very good working order. Must be 15+ years old now. I think that quality is cyclical for most manufacturers.

Well my son Ben has had a JRC chair since he was 10 years old, he is now 24, and the chair is fine, no problems at all.

Legs lock as they should all the time, and the stitching has held up very well. I have used it a few times, light, folds up small.

Like many things made, be it , cars, rods, reels, you will always get good one's, and down right Cr*p ones

Yeah... It might well have done flight but the whole thing is long gone now.

If ever I buy another new chair and it goes as quickly as that one did I'm just gonna take it back to where I bought it from and tell 'em it exploded in the boot of the car :D

My Specialist X-Lite recliner chair is giving me problems.
Rear legs will not lock in place, despite the little black knob on the side telling me it has.
Any movement of the chair backwards sees the bloody thing collapsing.
I bought it about 8 or 9 months ago on-line, but I can't remember who from!
Didn't keep the receipt as I have loads of JRC gear that has never given me problems in the past so didn't expect the chair to.
Have contacted JRC to see if they can do anything about it.

Smufter.....I must have an old X-lite model as I only have a (green) single, retractable pin which locks the back legs in position, so I'm not sure what you have " little black knob on the side" ??

I believe I'm right in that repairs/spares (and maybe not repairs at all!) are dealt with by a separate company, or were when I had to replace a back sliding leg a couple of years ago................maybe I mentioned them in a previous post on this Thread or on a separate Thread??

I'll try to find some paperwork, but...............

Had a quick look and spares may be available from Ensign Tackle or Pure tackle - the former more likely and (were) located in Birmingham on 01527 68800 email enquiries@ensign-fishingtackle.co.uk but this may well be out of date............anyway, worth a try if you've a mind..

Unless they've been changed in recent years the locking 'lugs' for the legs of the x-lite are these.........

Yes, that's them - mine are green knurled jobbies that (obviously!) pull in and out to hold or release the leg. Simple and works well..

Hi mate
my chair is only about 7 or 8 months old (I guess). Both legs fold up underneath and "lock" into place with a sprung black knob. Devils own job to release them when your hands are wet!
When you fold the legs back out, they should locate into two lugs on the legs, and both appear to do that.
But obviously the rear one is not locating properly as the back legs keep folding in on themselves if you move the seat backwards.
I have contacted JRC via their website in the hope they can suggest something. Problem is, I bought the chair on-line and can't remember who I bought it from! I threw the receipt away as I have other JRC products that perform superbly so didn't expect to have problems with this!
That will learn me
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'd have thought a quick look at home would tell you where the problem is and maybe a quick blast with a file would solve it..........or perhaps the frame is bent slightly which is stopping the pin from engaging ??

I suppose it depends on your DIY skills and if you have a few tools at home but I would have go at rectifying myself as the problem must be limited to one or two moving parts..............Sometimes the good old 4lb hammer does the trick !!

It'll be interesting to see if JRC respond.......................perhaps you can let us know how you get on??

I hope you get your problem fixed. I have a JRC X-Lite, and it has held up with my 18 stone sumo-style of sitting for many, many years. And I fish a lot.
