Re the magpie... I have seen a group of magpies attacking one of their kind in a kind of gang brawl. I wonder if your magpies face didn't fit.

Another day on the farm pond yesterday again in search of that elusive 2lb plus stripey. A mild south-westerly meant a comfortable 9/10 degrees. The bright conditions concerned me somewhat but as always its good to be out in the fresh air. On my standard float set up I started in the tree swim about a 1/2 a rod length out just brushing the willow branches touching the water. I took a break from the norm and opted for a quick stop mounted prawn on a size 12 hook. Trickling maggots over the top I soon hand some action in the form of two hungry common carp. Always good fun on the light gear but not the intended quarry. The water again was very cold and clear and with the sunshine I knew the perch would be cagey. As some cloud rolled over I thought my chances would improve and I wasn't disappointed. I switched to worms and brought the float much closer under the tree (literally just off the rod tip). I had two perch in quick succession. The first about 1.5lb and the second my biggest to date tipping the scales at an agonising 1lb 13 ounces. It went quiet for stripeys after that but i did catch a couple of netter roach and also a few more small carp. A thoroughly enjoyable day yet again. The quest for the two pounder continues but i'm getting closer.

Went back to Lakeside again today. Hoped for better weather as it was looking warmer.
When I got there, the wind was howling down the length of the lake.
I had the top lake to myself and the btooma lake had 3 guys on it.
I banked on the wind maybe pushing the fish either deep or up the end of the lake, so I fished opposite last time, at the end of the island.

Using a medium Maggot feeder and red maggots, with Sticky Manilla Glug after a few balls of mxied groundbait with maggot centres.

Swim woke up about half hour later, couple of small Roach, a small Bream, then a nice Roach, that I went to photograph but hooked myself in the process, so had to dump the fish back before unhooking my thumb!

Reloaded and chucked out, rod goes round and it was this nice Bream....

Pretty much died after that, couple of tiny Roach only found on retrieval.

I reckon I could surfed some of the waves on the lake today, it was crazy.

I got fed up and cold by 3 so packed up, but at least it wasnt a blank......

9 man knock up today on the canal at Leighton Buzzard. One of the few venues with colour left in due to the river Ouzel flowing in and out.
It was so mild first thing with a gentle breeze, as the hours ticked by it got much windier and the temperature dropped dramatically..
    It was freezing.
At least I got bites for 5 hours but the roach, skimmers and gudgeon were small, 16 to the pound jobs. Better than nothing.

Used my 17’ aco like a whip to hand, a 3BB waggler with punch or pinkie drifting down the middle in the left to right flow.

Came nowhere but enjoyed it anyway..

Not fishing but......I took a trip to Bobco Anglings Aladins Cave today. I picked up a new pole and bits which is my Christmas pressy from my sandwich maker.
If the staff in all the tackle shops were as pleasant and helpful as these folk there would be far fewer going bust.

NAH ! 11 m is all I need. Its a good quality one for silvers. Very light and slim. No need to pay for an extra 5 m I don't need.

There’s been plenty of pleasant and helpful folk going bust in the tackle industry and beyond.

Well I've been away in Rotterdam on a ship building job. Yesterday was my first day off after 32 days, and I'd arranged to go Sea Fishing. My excitement was palpable, I even dreamt about fishing the night before.

What was I greeted to in the morning? 70mph winds, sideways rain, and the highest tide Maasvlakte port has ever seen. Unfishable in any way shape or form.

The wait continues to get a bait wet, and I'll continue gazingly longingly at the elusive water I can't fish, which to be fair can be quite pretty when it wants to be (photo not indicative of current weather conditions, needless to say).

    Only 22 days to go!
