Why is it that so many poster seem to have a thing about Carp Anglers ?

Many of my best friends are Carp anglers, they go to work, contribute tax to the nations coffers, own their own houses, fish mainly at night, leaving the bank clear for daytime pleasure anglers and buy lots of tackle, again helping out to pay off our national debt.

I'm only asking as I do very little Carp fishing now, being of an age when a day trip is a bit off an effort and the thought of spending a night by the bank side seems a distant memory ?

Fry up's a thing of the past.

Oh and one other thing, is it just Carp Anglers or is it anyone who spends a lot of time targeting a single species, like Eels or Tench at night ?

I have nothing against carp anglers, infact the more the merrier........

Because they fish at night
Buy lots of tackle and thus keep the shops going
Exclusively fish stillwaters
Use boilies and pellets
Only speak to ther carp anglers
Have their own forums

Everything I do not do.

And
Otters just love carp :D

Well there we have two opinions that could be challenged?

One the Carpers I know speak to anyone, even pleasure and match anglers :).

I believe Carp live in rivers and you will find many of these Devil fish worshipers fishing the longest British river at night for Carp ?

They are "different", so easy to take a pop at. They generally aren't bothered with general angling forums, so they're easy to take a pop at in their absence. Increasingly, they don't have much understanding of any other form of angling. A few too many lack consideration for others and some break rules. so that obviously means that they all do.

They might as well be flash EEs, minus the killing of fish.

Okay Bob, I will accept that.

Ive never spoken to a carp angler except on my own lake when Im walking round, and then they have to speak, even if its just to complain about the ducks eating their boilies.

And yes some beautiful carp do live in rivers, the one I caught from the Test a few seasons back was a joy to behold.

Our longest river, if that is the Thames, I have only seen it when circumnavigating London, or at least I like to think it was the Thames :D
Yes I know, Im a sad case ;)

Bob, I'm an allrounder that's not averse to a spot of carping myself. However, I can acknowledge that an increasing number of carpers have never done anything other than carping. They couldn't fish a waggler if their life depended on it. It amuses me no end that different folks will detest me depending on the clothing I might wear or the type of rods I happen to take with me that day. Go one day, with a seatbox, pole and match type waterproofs, some carpers will call me a Noddy. Go the following day with three rods, Delks and green waterproofs, and a portion of other anglers will detest me for it.

Bob, most of the carp anglers I have known are anglers that have come to carp fishing after years of angling for other species, two have come from match angling, they speak to anyone work hard at their angling do not leave litter, in other words they are just anglers good ones at that.

There are IMO anglers in ALL branches of angling that have no consideration for other anglers, there seems to be a type of snobbery about not liking carp anglers that has come to the fore, barbel anglers calling carp mud pigs, float anglers complaining they have taken everywhere over, (maybe they should try fishing a river on a float but that takes a bit more skill doesn't it)

I am like yourself nowadays, nights on bedchairs and long dawn until dusk days are a thing of the past for me. I miss the lying on my bedchair and watching the dawn come as I miss the fry ups and company of good anglers that care about what they do, angling has changed tremendously, not all for the good.

If there are two things that I truly hate in Angling it is:

Species-ism . . . . . . . . . . .

and those ruddy Carpers . . . .

Only joking, but, would you let your daughter marry one?

Seriously however, I spent a decade chasing nothing but Carp and I truly enjoyed every minute of it, even the blanks sessions.

These days I can still manage a weekend, two night, trip and love the peace and quiet of my bivvy and a lakeside at dawn, and the early morning fry up brekkie too, and the corned beef hash before bringing in the rods and getting a few hours kip.

I think that it is more the "instant expert Carper" that the majority of experienced anglers find a little, well, let's just say, odd.

That and some of the less savory attributes that some (no, not all by a long chalk) have when it comes to strong canned ale and the mind-altering effects of some soft drugs.

Well for a start round here Carpers think they own the waters, they don't.

As for fishing nights? you forgot about the days and days on end they sit on a water. Only to move out and a mate take the swim for the next week.

Yes it happens and they don't do themselves any favours.

I like Carp fishing, but its not the be all and end all. Your also forgetting that the Barbel boys are getting to be as bad. I know a few who have turned from Carp to Barbel. No night fishing on the river, and who do you find at 2 am, Carp and Barbel boys trying it on. Bailiffs Dream :D

No doubt some one will say thats ok. Bollox is it.

I like my night fishing as much as the next angler, but it doesn't give me any special rights. Carp anglers seem to think it does.

As for buying lots of tackle, that doesn't give them any more rights either, and 60% of the stuff they take never gets used.

The worst of it is when they turn up, and think they can take over the area your fishing. They don't like it when you say NO.

I have seen just as much Anti Specieisium in other forms of angling, particularly from some single specie anglers who would not be seen dead near a Carp Puddle.

But this is only a small minority, which are best ignored !!

I remember being told I should be ashamed of myself for fishing for Chub with matching rods, boilies and buzzers ?

I asked the bloke what he used as bait for Chub and he told me, Paste, I said he should try boiling it, as he had told me he was having trouble with the crayfish.

It was -7 at the time and far to cold to hold a rod for long periods of time in the depth of winter ?

I am happy for all anglers to fish as they want. As long as they are fishing within the club/waters rules.

They should also respect other anglers on the waters.

Fish and let Fish, it is so simple.

I also think that if an angler Pi**es you off, because he or she is acting like a Pric* you have the right to tell them.

Might think he's superior Colin. But he doesn't know which is the longest river in England ;)

Anyway, carpers are good for our sport. They keep the riff-raff off the rivers :w

I fish for carp (proper carp fishing....not commies), but as much as I fish for everything else. So for those trips, Im a carper.

They make a reputation for themselves. Shitting in the woods, leaving rubbish, drinking beer, smoking weed, destroying grassy banks. Ive seen carpers chuck bream in th bushes behind them and stamp on them, tell match fishermen to **** off, etc etc.

So no wonder other fiahermen hate them.

Bob,

You will always get some one who thinks he knows everything, about everything.

I get Pi**ed off with some of the so called specialists that make claims about, finding sections of rivers, lakes, big fish. When in fact all they have done is follow others without doing any ground work. Then they write a book, and people fall for it all :eek:mg: They then think they are better than other anglers

I don't see the point posting on a subject you know nothing about, but as i say, each to their own.

I think getting Carp Fever is part of the natural progression of a developing angler. It certainly was for me, I spent a decade or so with little else on my mind. Then I discovered flyfishing for trout, and pike fishing and catfish and barbel... and river fish and now it's salmon.
Maybe I'll get goldfish fever again but not till the weather warms up! :)

Huumm yes

i was in a certain national chain of angling shops recently and over heard the obnoxious little Oiuk behind the counter talking to a carp nutter say in a loud voice , he would rather have One Carp fisher in than a 100 other anglers .
Best part of it was the carpy walked out without buying a thing and a few of us other anglers dumped what we had picked up and walked out .
not no way will i ever partake of that chain now ..
