You'll be smiling on the other side of your face when your dad gets in.
To much TV will make your eyes go square.
No good will come of it tha' knows.
If you don't stop crying, I'll give you something to cry about.
I'll show you the back of my hand.
You'll go blind doing that.
Don't even think about it, I've got eyes in the back of my head.
You'll grow into it.
You daft apeth.

Whilst working in the local play skool my missus told one of the little girls "drink your milk, it will put hairs on your chest". It took a while for the skool and parents to work out why she refused to drink milk.

D'you remember the good old days when you took pictures with a camera that had a proper film in it that had to be developed on the high street somewhere?

Do you remember when you took a photo of your dinner with it? And then after a while, when you had used up all the film you took it to Boots or somewhere to get the film developed and while you were there got them to make loads of copies of the photos of your dinner?

Do you remember the good old days when you picked up your photos from the shop then went and posted all the photos of your dinner through all your friends' letter boxes?

Do you remember the good old days when you did that?

No? No of course you don't, cos you didn't do it did you?

My late Mother had a stream of these old sayings.

If you swallow that bubble gum it will wrap around your tonsils.

If you swallow an apple pip, an apple tree will grow in your stomach.

If you keep looking in that mirror, the devil's face will appear.

Don't put an umbrella up indoors because it will bring bad luck.

And many more.

I remember the good old days, whooping cough, rickets, kids with calipers, old ladies with goiters, smallpox, the three day week, the Irish 'troubles', the miners strikes, the Brixton riots and last nights leftovers being served up for dinner today.

Give me 2015 anytime.

My Nan used to say,"Don't poo in the sink, your grandad doesn't like it".

Don't play marbles with your dads glass eye, he's got to go out and look for work.
