I watched a large bird fly over the lake last afternoon.

Wondering if it was a buzzard. Large obviously with a dark brown/grey back. Flew across the lake slowly - flap flap flap glide, flap flap flap glide - with a gull going nuts at it. Spade shaped tail too btw

Probably a Buzzard! Certainly not the wife as she is slim and cannot fly;)

I agree mikench, most likely a buzzard. Might have been my Lady though, because unlike yours mine can fly. Breathes fire too ?. Pete.

My vote goes for buzzard which always seem to get mobbed by other birds. There seems to a rapid expansion in their numbers in the last few years.

In my experience marsh harriers are rarely mobbed by crows and the like ! They are more agile and efficient flyers and crows would be at risk. Buzzards are our most abundant bird of prey and are regularly mobbed! Magnificent birds!
