Heavier olivettes, usually on the river, I like to trap between sliding float stops.
Lighter ones, say up to 1.5g, on stillwater pole rigs, I trap between no8 Stotz. They seem to both stay in place well and slide without damage to the line.
The lock-slide ones are ok, but not my choice.
The method I don't like is where you use some kind of peg/sliver of plastic to jam the olivette on the line. Never happy that it wasn't too tight. Or too loose.
Pity, because it looks neat in theory.
A fishing friend always refers to his olivetti. I haven't the heart to tell him.
