single species specialist

I have over the years fished for single species to the exclusion of others, carp, Barbel and during winter Roach, now I am happy with whatever comes along but if I was forced to choose it would be Barbel.

Whatever is at it's biggest on the venue I'm fishing, so at this time (2017) it would have to be Perch, its only a matter of time before we get another out break of Perch disease.

Before the Otters it would have been Barbel on the Ivel, Chub on the Old Lea are getting old, there are still some 8s around, so would be tempted to try for them.

If I was a little fitter it would by silly not to fish Chew for the Pike, has to be the best place ever to get a 30ty ?

Can't think of a species I'd want to fish for every time out. A few would be off the menu around here, especially in winter rivers, if you like to catch most times out.

I like to fish different places and I'm as likely to go because I fancy a particular method, whether stick, waggler, leger, feeder,or pole, as I am for a particular species, and I like the feeling that a bite is imminent, rather than likely in the next few hours.

Since you can fish for them anywhere and on any method, I suppose I'd go for roach if pushed, especially as they reward fine gear and careful presentation. Not that other fish don't, of course.

For me it would have to be dace, the local mill stream I fish in winter has some very nice size fish in it and plenty of them.

Dace for me on one of the local streams next week after giving the cold weather a chance to 'settle in'. Roach have to be my favourite, either from flowing water or a farm pond or gravel pit............

I love barbel,but that would mean not trotting for chub a and roach in the winter(something that I drifted away from sadly),plus fishing for tench,bream and occasionally crucians,variety is the spice of life.

I'm the same as most others here, I'm not a single species angler, I like to get a shoal going and work through the lit'luns for a better stamp of fish as the session progresses - even if I do go for specimen fish, I have a float rod set up which I use while waiting (where allowed and sensible to do).

Single species angling doesn't do it for me either, those days are long gone and I appreciate most species in the right place and at the right time. I also live too far away from waters to put in the time and effort to specialise.

The smaller species are coming back for me, and if anything, I would love to have some good roach fishing nearby.

if you had to be one which would you choose?

I've no inclination to be fish for just one species. However, if forced to, I'd probably choose grayling. That's for little reason beyond local availability. I might like to choose other species, but for quite a few there would be little point.
