Bizarre, just about everywhere I fish in the Fens you can take your dog if you want.

I have noticed myself that its a north south devide.

#When i use to fish the charity fish in on yatley and talked to the anglers there. They did not know a water they could not take there dog on. Just one rule the dog misehaves and it you who looses the ticket.

Why they can't do that up here i will never know.

But then again dogs are being banned from more and more places these days.

I must admit Bryan that if I had a fishery I would be loathe to let dogs on myself.

The people involved might get one chance after they had worked their ticket big time but if they screwed up they would be off without further adieu.

The problem is I think that so many dog owners just do not clear up after their dogs.

I know a little canal close to Bath were people walk their dogs all the time and honestly mate its more than you can do to put your gear down.

On top of that if a dog ran through your peg and smashed your pole or whatever in most cases at the very least you would have extreme hassle getting a couple of hundred quid off the owner to pay for a new section and in general you would be met with a stinking attitude and a point blank refusal.

Speaking for myself, my dog stays were he is. He is quiet and freindly. He is tethered anyway just in case and is no hassle to anybody at all but I fully understand and accept their point when Im met with a blanket refusal from fishery owners.

Threeseasons ago I had to try (unsuccessfully) to disgorge my dog. She loves pellets and decided she wanted one that happened to have a size 8 Super Specialist that had12" of 12lb mono and a size 8 swivel attached. I got the hook length & swivel back, that cost me my thumb nail when she bit me butI ain't seen the hook since. I still take her where rules allow. She likes to kill stuff like mink, rats and other rodents that she can dig out. What she would really lovethoughis a Squirrel but she not quite quick enough -It'sfunny watching her try though.

I've taken my dog every time I've been this season bar the Ribble. He's a very small (13lb) tri-colour short haired eight year old Jack Russell called Charlie.

He tends to get cold at this time of year but being small I just pop him in my jacket and he's happy to stay there with just his head poking out.

Great company and he loves fishing.

That raised a smile Andy. Mine's a bit big for that now but I stuffed him in my rucker when it rained once when he was a puppy. It still smells faintly of wee.
