A couple of years ago, I stopped catching roach on a rising Trent to eat a sandwich............. I'll never make that mistake again, and these days I carry hand wipes in my holdall and take a lot of care if eating anything while fishing. A bit of effluent may suit roach but it's not good for humans.

I know the feeling having spent some time in hospital after picking up a bug when out fishing. Hand gel and wipes are now part of my first aid fishing kit.

Not sure if it's at all related but I seem to be allergic to fish slime - if I handle fish with bare skin I get a rash of tiny white blisters.

As I don't catch much it isn't a massive problem but it's one of the reasons why I don't pose for the traditional 'angler holding fish and gazing at its head in mock awe' type shots.

The other reason is I don't catch much. :eek:mg:
