Time has come to re spool some of my reels ready for next season.

Does anyone have a good rule of thumb for appropriate breaking strain lines with respect to rod t.c.?

I know the john Wilson one, was just wondering if this still holds true with newer rods and line?

It's more a case of whether a 10lb or 8lb line could be run through my 1lb 2oz rod? It's a high end rod but the line I generally use is daiwa sensor? Obviously I don't want to over do the line b.s. But would be nice to have that little bit more abrasion resistance and trust in it if I need to 'hang on'

Any help would be appreciated!

The old skool method used to be to multiply the rod's test curve by 4 to get the minimum breaking strain of line, by 6 to the maximium breaking strain of line and by 5 to get the perfectly balanced breaking strain of line.
