I've recently made my first batch of gelatine bait. Just gelatine and liquidised mussel.
I've had bites on it, but haven't hooked anything yet. My favourite local venue isn't fishing well on my usual baits either, though, so there's nothing conclusive to report so far.
My reason for making the baits was that when fishing mussels, tiddlers were nibbling them down to nothing.
I still wanted to fish mussels but needed a way of toughening them up.
I've frozen it and found that it thaws perfectly well. I can provide a link to the gelatine I've used, if anyone's interested ? (Don't want to look like I'm advertising.)

I've found that it's 'stable' at room temperature or in shade, but 'melts' in sunlight, so I keep it in a cooler bag when I'm out fishing.
It's also stable in the water.. doesn't dissolve.
I tried 'dusting' the cubes with salt, but the salt 'melted' the gelatine into a useless sludge.
Also found that the top 5mm, or so, of the mix was full of bubbles (when set) and floated. I cut this away as I want a sinking bait.
