I had a telescopic rod snap on me when I hooked into a big stingray a few weeks ago. Awesome feeling, had never caught anything that powerful.
A week later I got this big game rod for 200lb line, just so I don't have to worry about it snapping. First off I need to get a proper reel for it, as I only have a spinning reel, which isn't optimal as I have to flip it over and reel the opposite direction I usually reel(cause of the wheels on the rod). I also noticed that it's not a very "casty" rod. When I cast the braid lifts off the wheels and rubs against the metal on top which doesn't do my line any good. I'll probably only use this rod for live baiting as I don't have to cast as often.
I was wondering if anyone knows a good unbreakable rod for casting lures, for say.. giant amberjack or just really big fish. Would also appreciate if someone could explain how to tell if the rod will handle big fish. I will be ordering online, hope that won't be much of a problem.
