Like Crow I thought that the young Ray Walton looked (and spoke a little bit) like Dudley Moore. and I thought that Fred sounded a bit like Peter Cooke too.

I once popped round to Fred's house to pick up a centrepin from him, what a nice man he was, he also signed my copy of his barbel book for me.

I didn’t meet Fred but I once took Fred’s dad fishing with me on a private stretch of the Lea and shared a swim with him.

I did get a chance to fish with Fred on the Kennet at Aldermarston Mills once but I couldn’t get the time off work.
