Rod/casting position when feeder fishing slow rivers...

Well what would you do,cast straight in front of you,with the rod facing downstream,or cast downstream at say 45degs and put the rod straight out in front,I'm wondering as sometimes better hooking occurs?

Gott'a depend on the swim and where the fish are.
I often fish upstream as you need far less weight to hold bottom and bites are very easy to see.
