Are these a new line or a discontinued one? I can find them in larger sizes down to 12 and 22 but nothing in between.

Just had a nosey on drennan international and I can't see them in barbless. As you know I use them in the micro barbed version and they're my main choice of hook along with animal micro barbed. You could just nip the barb down on thoseeasy enough.
I think animals are available in barbless and they're excellent hooks.

Barbless Super Spades are a discontinued model. I suspect that they'd have been caught in limbo between two markets. The commie scene where eyed barbless are more prevalent and the more natural fisheries, especially rivers, where spade end with a micro barb are more commonly used.

I had never seen them before and wondered. Size 22 are too small for me to cope with and 12 are a bit big.

If I recall correctly they are a pretty heavy duty pattern.

Plenty of alternatives available: Kamasan Animal, Guru XS etc.

Rarely use anything quite so heavy myself.

Drennan Super Specialist are the stongest hook I've found in a genuine size 18, much stronger than Kamazan Animal, hope they are still going

Mikes talkin' super spades, not super specialists. Super spades are spade ends, superspecialists are eyed.

Are they the same hook but with spade/eyed variations?

I don't think so, without going to compare them next to one another specialists may be a heavier gauge, are a slightly different shape, possibly a larger barb etc.
I'm a big fan of specialists and they are one of my favourite hooks having been using them for 30 plus years...but I very rarely ever use them for trotting.
