I am thinking of getting one of these. I already have the 1.5 TC 12ft. rods. They are pretty stiff. I use them with the Avon tip to fish for twenty pounders. I was wondering if the lighter tc rods would be considerably softer with a more through action, more like the Hardy Marksman Avons (those who have them will know what I mean).

They will be for Stillwater fish in the 1-5 lb range.

Would love to get any advice, opinions, suggestions, alternatives etc.

Thanks for your help.

I cannot comment on your proposed rod but am aware of the virtues of the Hardy Marksman Avons. I have the 11'6" supero and it is a superb rod.

For your chosen quarry and fish far bigger I cannot recommend too highly the Darent Valley .75 tc specialist Avon. You don't get two tips and don't need them. It costs around £40 from The Tackle Box In Dartford. It's brilliant. Look at their website and the reviews( one is mine) and take a chance. Believe me you will not regret it.

Had a waggle of one in my local ts on Monday. They are very "avonish" in action...quite a bit softer than the Hardy avon imo and puul a wonderful all through curve. I was very impressed and will probably have one ( or a pair) . I imagine they'd be perfick for crucian, mid sized tench, perch and chub.

Mikench:

Thanks for your interest in my query. I actually already own two of the Darent Valley 0.75 TC rods which they were kind enough to modify the grips of to my preference. They did it for the Drennan 1.5 TC 12ft Twin Tip Duos as well that they sourced for me. The Tackle Box is my go to source for tackle , largely due to comments on this forum!

I prefer to fight my fish holding the rod in front of the reel, the weight of which acts as a counterbalance. Just a quirk of mine.

They are superb rods as you say. I just wanted the versatility(?) of the quiver tip as well.

S Kippy:

Before I proceed further, let me assure you the rods will never be used to fish for your much disfavoured bream, if only because they do not occur in my part of the world. I do own a Hardy Marksman Smuggler 11 ft Avon, a beloved rod of mine. I am delighted to hear the Drennans are more progressive (softer?) than the Hardy.

Methinks at least two of the Drennans will soon be winging their way to Bangladesh.

Thanks again to both of you for your candid opinions and advice.

Yes. Just started. Only 3 confirmed cases. Two had come back from Italy and one was a secondary infection. Isolated. Let us see if the temperature thing is correct. Our temps are hitting 30⁰C now. At peak day time.

Just breaking: 2 of the 3 have recovered from the virus as per official govt. statement.

The 1lb tc Duo is definately softer than the Marksman Avon. A real all through action. My concern is whether it does anything the 0.75 tc DVs cant do. I love my DVs to bits but i sometimes wish they had just a tad more grunt. Im hoping the 1lb tc Duo will have that but the extra foot in length might work against it.

What I'm saying is that the Duo might just be a little bit too similar to the DV. I may have to see if I can borrow a Duo to do some comparisons at home.

I see the TB is now doing a DV Elite.....11ft 1lb test. Sounds great but at £150 its a big step up in price from the 0.75 DV. It may well be that the 0.75tc DV is exceptional. I bought the 1.25lb tc twin tip DV and it was horrible.

It's the twin tip that is tempting me over the DV 0.75 TC. I too love my DV 0.75s.

I have a pair of the fox duo lite specialist
Think the avon is 0.5 or 0.75 along with 4 tips.
Was toying with moving them on as not used much
Any idea how much I should price them at ?
They are the green blank
Thanks

Check what they go for on ebay "completed listings" to give you an idea of their value. Condition is a major factor.

Some different ones in the range like the 1.5 and 1.75 finished on the bay today and didn't do too well although they were not in super condition.

IN THE PUB.
The Darent valley rods are superb value and the blank quality certainly shows through for the prices they are sold for when compared with others in a similar price range I now own two, for me Tackle Box have produced Good Quality rods at attractive prices.
Having said that the Fox Specialist and Duo-Lite's are not to be ignored they are well thought of, 2nd hand ones sell very quickly.
