Can you say which is the heavier of these two fish....

I think these pictures are quite decieving and i'd be interested to hear your thoughts on which fish is the heavier of the two and an estimate of their weights.

The first one looks slightly thicker set in the body with a slightly larger head and looks about 4ins or 5ins longer than the second one so my guess is:

First one about 9½lb and second around 8lb?

Im not very good at guessing from photos.

At last a sensible guess!
Not a bad guess either but stil shy of the mark .

This is interesting and just shows how decieving a picture of a fish can be.

I reckon they are both 11lb plus with the bottom one the heavier of the two at nearer 12.

Can I have the river specialist reel Ian to go with the rod which is superb by the way.

Wouldnt hazard a guess without a human holding it,then its down to the river its caught on,time of year etc,very difficult,the scales dont lie....

Ok, this will most probably surprise you, but I can assure you my scales are pretty much bang on, give or take an ounce or so. I was as precise as possible when weighing them.
Also the fish are not big by many peoples standards these days so no need to lie about the weights either.

Anyhow, the fish in the top two pic's was 13lb's 3 ounces and at the time was my pb barbel caught whilst trotting....I caught it in 2017, I think it was July. I think it was October 2018 I bettered that pb with a 13lb 7 ounce fish, not much more I know but 4 ounce is 4 ounce .

The fish in the bottom two pictures weighed 11lb 3 ounces, so 2lb lighter!

I have lots of pictures of barbel that look bigger than both of these, I don't think they were because I never weighed them. I've had quite a lot of barbel between 10 and 12lb but to catch anything heavier than that is quite rare in the waters I fish.
