I don't understand this product. It's popular and highly rated but almost impossible to get hold of.

I like it including the colour and have some in varying bs. I thought I would buy some 8lb but can only find it in 5,000m lengths. Who would buy mono in such lengths? I won't so will get some sensor.

And if that doesn't provoke a long awaited post by the master nothing will.:wh

Mike , I had a similar issue . I wanted 6 lb but couldn't find it online and ended up buying some Drennan Feeder & Method mono . It seems ok but obviously hasn't yet been field tested.

Tom , I saw the pro tough but not in 6 lb , I might give it a try

I can’t remember the last time I bought mono line. In the past I have bought bulk spools and I am still using them. Some now 15 years old some possibly older. Mind you some of the lines on my reels are nearly that old.

Mike,I find it odd you say that,I would much rather have the 5,000m option, having it there to fill to my preferred level each time, also I have only ever seen it in 500m(I think),or 1000m,I want some 4lb,cant get any for love nor money...

I believe that North Herts Angling in Baldock Herts may have stock in the breaking strains you require.

There are a few very good lines that you can no longer get in the lower bs and only on massive bulk spools. That’s what carp fishing does.

PG is so strong and long lasting that I think my bulk spools will see me out. I’ve not changed the line on my Zander or carp reels for years because it is still as good as ever

It is a very good line, very supple,in fact at times it may too supple,I wonder what it would be like as barbel hooklink in 10lbs,I use 10lb super specialist, which is bloody thick, but 100% reliable....

Alan, i have enough line from 6lb and below to see me out. I also have plenty of 10lb and some 12lb. I don't have any 8lb that I want to use. A bulk spool of 5,000m of 8lb costing £85 is too much in every sense.

I will get some sensor as it is readily available , good to use and good value.

Thankfully I bought many bulk spools (1000m) in various sizes quite a few years ago so haven't checked availability for ages. Like Skip I don't find the need to change it too often either.

Mike, if you want '8' use '6' it's is '8' a give or take a gnats thing......

Thanks Jerry. I got as far as placing the order and saw the delivery cost of £21 so didn't bother. It's the principle more than the cost. Many thanks though.:)

Its a nice float fishing line too. I've got some 3lb and 4lb stick and wagglers, its a bit thick (like floatfish or Bayer) but very strong. Nice line and available from Birmingham angling if my memory serves me right? You have to call them.

I do find it rather odd that in a commercially driven world where supply generally keeps up with and often outstrips demand, whilst some are looking for a new idea to get a foot on the ladder, this stuff is so difficult to get hold of.

It's my one and only gripe.

Since I 'converted' many years ago I haven't entertained anything else, I've had no reason to and the gap in contrast is so great that I've come to the conclusion that there is little point in looking.

Maxima would be my next choice but only for float fishing, the stretch renders it less of an alternative for tip work but then you're getting back to that specific lines for specific purposes and I don't want that, I want a simple one shot all rounder that's good at everything.

My 'pins get loaded with several hundred yards of the stuff without issue, any bedding is eradicated after the first run through as is any following a hefty fish and that's the case whether you put fifty metres or two hundred and fifty metres on it.

The point is I know I won't be outrun by a big fish and I'm not fannying around changing line after each session.

I can't do the comparisons as I've not kept date records but given the comparable lower cost and replacement intervals of lines such as, say, Sensor I would bet a pound to a penny that I'm vastly up on the deal over the longer term and I'm not wasting my time re-spooling.

I daren't tell you how long Pro Gold has been on some of my reels but I can invest 100% confidence in it each and every time it gets wet.

I've seen these 5000m spools at eighty or so quid and they're way out of my price range, if they weren't I'd have no hesitation in buying them.

Peter Drennan ought to get hold of the marketing rights, you wouldn't be able to visit a burger van without seeing a display card of every b/s hanging from the pinned back shutters :)

I used the link Jerry kindly supplied and on further examination found that the high flat rate of delivery of £25 was waived if you spent £33 so I managed spools of 1,000m in 8, 10lb bs at £13.95 a spool. I made up the difference with some QM1 hooks to nylon which I use at lot in 4" hooklengths.
