Can anyone give me an email address for Drennan InternationalTackle in Oxford??

This morning I managed to snap the top 10cm offmy 12'6"Tench Float Rod top joint!

I would like to talk to them direct about obtaining a replacementtop joint rather than go through a tackle shop but I have heard(maybe wrongly)they tend to go through Drennan reps who visit shops rather than deal directly with the public

Any help appreciated!!

They prefer to use their reps but I snapped the top of my carp feeder (a discontinued model) - contacted Drennan and discovered they have a small repository of old parts. Not only that but dealing with them direct was at least £20,00 cheaper than the rep had quoted my local tackle shop -and I know it was the rep's mark up as my tackle shop have replaced other companies' stuff at the price quoted when I phoned the manufacturer!

Tee-Cee don't speak to Gary Barclay as he works in despatch but ask for Dave Ellyatt as he actually works in the rod department.

We have never made a 12' 6" Tench Float but 12' 9" and 13'. Also there have been 4 versions so you need to make sure you know exactly which one you have.

POSHPAUL: Our reps don't have 'mark-ups'. They are paid by us and do not take money/payment from any shop. So any price difference between that 'quoted' (it is likely to have only been a guide as reps do not carry a spares price list) and that actually paid is nothing to do with the rep (or agent) pocketing anything. Most likely someone here was just being nice and doing someone who had an older/discontinued model a generous favour, especially if the rod/section was quite old and maybe not 100% cosmetically perfect.

Thanks for clarifying that RMNDIL - I withdraw the remark unreservedly.

You can understand, however, how I came to my inaccurate conclusion

Glad you put me right

As I have stated openly elsewhere the service direct from Drennan was brilliant.

Best wishes

Poshers

RMNDIL.............thanks for the info.Unfortunately its all a bit too late as things have moved on which,in hindsight, may prove to be a pity!

I did phone Drennan and was told of Mr Barclays position and hence unable to help me.I was then put through to the rod department and spoke to a very helpful person who advised that they no longer had any blanks for my rod(one of the originals apparently). We talked about the various rods made under the Tench Float name ie the stepped-up version which followed mine thern the Mk 3 followed by the current model, the Mk4.which is 13'long against mine of 12'9"

I offered to pay him then for a Mk4 if he could send it direct(at a reduced price)but this is not Drennan practice and I would have to go through a tackle shop.I spoke to several local shops but none was below £139 so I have now ordered one and will collect next Tuesday!

As far as the original is concerned I will get a new top ring whipped on(rod now 12'5")and either keep it as a spare or more likely give it to a young club member. The action will be somewhat different but the fish will never know and it will do a job!!

ps Yes I have bought a new rod on spec but Drennan has never let me down and I don't expect the new one to do so....in addition life is too short to go searching around looking at alternatives-more so that I am now in my mid-sixties!!

pps How many anglers can have a wife who was so so pleased when told of the new purchase and how much I deserved it..................lucky man eh?

pppsThanks to all who offered good advice-very much appreciated!!!

RMNDIL.............in your post you seem to suggest that you work for Drennan as you've used"we"several times!

This might be me adding 2+2 and coming up with 5 but,if you do,are you able to offer any advice/comment on a possible Drennan rod that might meet a spec of 12' long/1.75 test curve approx(maybe 2lb)and with a pretty much through action and if possible 2 piece(more likely to be 3-piece).This is not for super distance casting but more for keeping wild carp out of lily beds in a small lake!!Something with a bit of power but not a poker and length to steer them in the right direction.................

This may well not exist and I can of course ask for a current brochure(none of the tackle shops I spoke tohad one!)but if you have knowledge of Drennan products first hand I always think this is a good place to start!

I have a drennan specialist power barbel which is now discontinued but they are still available on the web. It comes with a 1 3/4 lb top and a 2lb top. It has a great through action which would be ideal for what you want. If not the new specialist barbel at 1 3/4 lb is another great rod.

Tee-Cee, yes I do. I'm part of the furniture !! Gary put you in touch with Dave Ellyatt as he was talking to you on the 'phoneas I walked past him in the rod biulding !!

Richard's advice above is sound. It is a discontinued model but, as he points out, there should still be some around.

The specialist Tench & Bream rods are also worth a look.

Again, if you speak to Dave Ellyatt (his knowledge on specialist/carp rods is better than mine) he'll point you in the right direction andhelp you to narrow down your search.

Also, if you send your address to:

admin@drennan.co.uk

we'll send you some info. Mark it for the attention of Dave Ellyatt or even myself Richard Norris.

His PM function is off so I've sent him an infraction message in the hope that it generates an email to his inbox.

Please if anyone speaks to him before I do, he's done nothing wrong, it's merely an attempt to contact him for Tee Cee.

I have explained this in the PM.

Cheers

Just to update.....I've had email chat with Drennan International about a problem I've got with a Mk 4 Tench Float rod-the top 30mm has snapped off-and I needed to know what they could do for me.(I had the self same problem with an identical rod(older model)when the top 100mm broke off.....both could have been my fault but I'm not sure......
Anyway for what its worth I can get a new top joint from Drennan for this particular model at a cost of £50 approx but only via my tackle shop...

I was trying to make contact with RMNDIL as he helped me with the first breakage!!

Thanks Bluenose for your efforts but unless RMNDIL can get me the new top section gratis(and pigs might fly!!)I don't need to make contact with him now....
