Chub......i have been keeping my eye on them, i know where a few big fish live on the Wye.

There are a lot of smaller fish about now too.

I like to river fish for them.....it's new and the fish can be unknown.

I dont fish for them but I've seen a big carp rolling on the top. I will let you know if I hear anything on the bank.

Speci with a bit of luck the nice chub you saw might be a resident one.And still be there when the season starts. I need too get out and have a look for some new places to try my self. And I've got some prebaiting to do nearer the start.

It was one of my favorite all-round baits, sweetcorn/ maggot cocktail... with a groundbait feeder with corn, maggots and pellet in the mix.

Surely that's oneof the joys of the river, not quite knowing what'snext?!?

I dont fish corn on the hook on the Wye because I've been told that nothing will take it. But if you fish maggots you can catch anything I have had a jack take double red before. Its all part of the fun when river fishing.

I'm going to be doing a spot of chubbing on a local free section of river, the Frays which is an offshoot of the River Colne. I've walked it several times now and seen plenty of chub so a freelined lobworm should bring home the goods! I'm no chub specialist so anything that tops my rather pathetic 3lb 8oz best would be brilliant.

Can't wait.

Float dont forget to take bread. Freelined worms and fishing bread on the top are both exciting ways of fishing. When the line tightens it could be anything from a pound to ? who knows. Its not long now do you have the luncheon meat rush? where you live. I have had to try 4 shops where they have sold out before.
