Varnishing the underwhipping first may help Harry, it may fill in the whipping?

But i never underwhip so it is only a suggestion.

Thats exactly how to do it paul. Also use a thinner whipping thread for the underwhipping. I only ever used to do it on sea fishing rods, mostly beachcasters, i would always advise against doing it on smaller freshwater float/quiver rods as i feel it effects the action of the blank.

Bill, paul Many thanks using "A" gauge thread as the underwhip has solved the problem no gaps.
