How did you get on?

Fished a new stretch of the Kennet yesterday. Tried out a a new rod (Cadence 15ft #0) so float fished all day. Caught 45 roach to about 12ozs and 9 dace to about 10 ozs. Please with the new rod, heavier but softer than my Acolyte, I'm sure that it will get a lot of use. Swapped baits between wheat, punched bread and hemp. Caught on all three but most of the better fish came to hemp. Wheat is better when stationary. Quite a few floating leaves which kept catching the float up as I slowed it down in the 7ft deep swim, good day. One other angler, he caught a grayling as well as roach and dace.

Yes a great stretch of water. I dont know about parking nowadays but we always parked on the green in front of the church at Hunton Bridge.

I used to live at Abbots Langley just up the hill from Kings Langley but the stretch I was thinking of was a little bit further downstream at Lady Capels.
I won several club team matches on quality Chub Roach and Perch at Lady Capels back in the late 70s and 80s in the days when Watford Tackle Carrier was still going strong and organising opens there.

I have a book which features Lady Capels in one of its chapters written by Dave Coster.

I’m surprised that Peter Crabtree doesn’t fish the occasional match there.

It’s not too good for parking at Lady C’s for matches these days. We do occasionally fish Langleybury where John Step mentioned, parking by the church.

Today I went nearer Berkhamsted to try for a big perch. Lobworm tail on a 10 super specialist hook and a perch bobber float..
Fed chopped worm via dropper a rod length out. Had a few but none were big...

I had some good matches at Lady Capels and some bad ones. I remember winning a section because I was the only one that caught a fish and that didn't register on the scales.

Yesterday I decided to get some maggot to try in the same peg I fished Tuesday on the stick float,turned up this morning and walked up to the peg in the pouring rain only to find the river had risen over the boards of the platform,so had to fish the feeder,I caught 2 chub,2 barbel,a baby barbel 6ozs,roach,dace,chublets,perch and gobies....below is my last fish of the day,a beautiful redfin,around a pound,who cares a few ounces either way,a lovely way to finish,it has made me determined to fish the peg again,on the float,like I wanted to...

The river was to high for trotting today so I visited a club pool. The temp's have dropped right off and it felt even colder because of the strong north north westerly winds. I think it was about 15 degrees when I arrived and 12 degrees as I left.
Anyhow, I had gone with the intention of catching carp as I wanted to put a bend in a new rod. I freelind meat and bread and caught quite a few.
I had one smaller fish which may or not be a true crucian....

@mikench had given me what was left of his maggots after Tuesday on the river. This left me with quite a large surplus. Only one thing to do, go fishing. Various bits and pieces sorted Thursday morning but it was set for heavy rain at 12 and 3. Hung on to see if the forecast was correct, it wasn't, 12 came with clear skies so on the basis that they'd get the 3 o'clock wrong as well I set off for my local pool. Four others already there so couldn't fish my preferred peg. The ones left were pretty much lilly bound and likely to be tricky. From the comments I was hearing it wasn't fishing well so not too optimistic. I was hoping for Crucian, there are a good few in there but it wasn't to be, no sign of them at all. Did end up with 8 or 9 decent Roach, one Bream that slipped the hook, one landed, three skimmers and a Mirror of about 3.5lb. A few spots of rain around three and that was it. I'd been loose feeding maggots and caster but most of the ones on the hook went to bread. Sorry, no pics, flat battery.

I'd already planned to fish the Dam on Friday come what may. Arrived around 7, usual plan 12:15M on the bottom at around 8' and just out from the reed margin at around 40". GB in at 12M and loose feeding the margin. It seems to dry up in the margin quite quickly or they spook off so only fished it for ~20min at a time switching between the two. I could have done with some warmer gear. Where I was fishing doesn't get the sun at all at this time of year and those 33mph gusts were biting in, coming more or less straight at me. Couldn't fish the usual antenna at 12M, ended up with a small Drake slider with four No10s by the hook just to keep it still. Ended up with 46 Roach to about 6oz, no sign of anything else.

It was Mike, b***dy freezing and heavy going at distance. Didn't anticipate it being quite so cold. I'd put some warmer socks on but should have worn the bib and brace.

It's one of the new rod ranges from shimano normark (shimano bought normark a few years ago). I wondered how long it would be before they brought out a new range of rods out with the normark logo.
It's 2.25lb test and ultra slim. I know that sounds like a heavy test curve but it doesn't feel it and it was bent double yesterday!

They do float rods, avons and carp rods in the new range Mike ?.

I know Keith likes the look of the new range!
