Braid as a mainline is not widely used outside of reasonably specialised applications. Unless you've got a specific reason to use it, I'd suggest you steer clear of braid as a mainline. Braid as mainline has its plus points, but it also comes with significant negatives.
Braid for hooklinks is much more widely used. However, the main use is in big carp fishing and has trickled down into other spheres of specialist angling.

This is great advice thank you both. I always swim feed for tench and bream (traditional methods) so I’ll stick with mono on the bottom too then.
Obviously there have been changes since I last hit the water. Is there a website for new rules etc.. I don’t want to cause issues for myself and certainly don’t want to be kicked off a club or fined.

There are no laws to stop anyone using braid for mainline or hooklinks. However, further rules are often imposed by riparian owners. Some fisheries and some clubs will ban various types of tackle and methods that are not illegal to use. The only way of finding out is by checking the individual club or fishery rules.
